چکیده

DA 530 (G93.3+6.9) is a high Galactic latitude supernova remnant with a well-defined shell-like radio morphology and an exceptionally low X-ray to radio luminosity ratio. Based on a Chandra ACIS observation, we report the detection of an extended X-ray feature close to the center of the remnant with 5.3σ above the background within a circle of 20 radius. The spectrum of this feature can be characterized by a power-law with the photon index Γ = 1.6± 0.8. This feature, spatially coinciding with a nonthermal radio source, most likely represents a pulsar wind nebula. We have further examined the spectrum of the diffuse X-ray emission from the remnant interior with a background-subtracted count rate of ∼ 0.06 counts s in 0.3-3.5 keV. The spectrum of the emission can be described by a thermal plasma with a temperature of ∼ 0.3–0.6 keV and a Si over-abundance of & 7 solar. These spectral characteristics, together with the extremely low X-ray luminosity, suggest that the remnant arises from a supernova with an anomalously low mechanical energy (< 10 ergs). The centrally-filled thermal X-ray emission of the remnant may indicate an early thermalization of the SN ejecta by the circum-stellar medium. Our results suggest that the remnant is likely the product of a core-collapsed SN with a progenitor mass of 8-12 M⊙. Similar remnants are probably common in the Galaxy, but have rarely been studied. An evolutionary model for pulsar-driven supernova remnants

We present a model of a pulsar wind nebula evolving inside its associated supernova remnant. The model uses a hydrodynamics code to simulate the evolution of this system when the pulsar has a high velocity. The simulation distinguishes four different stages of pulsar wind nebula evolution: the supersonic expansion stage, the reverse shock interaction stage, the subsonic expansion stage and ulti...

Discovery of the Putative Pulsar and Wind Nebula Associated with the Tev Gamma-ray Source Hess J1813−178

We present a Chandra X-ray observation of G12.82−0.02, a shell-like radio supernova remnant coincident with the TeV gamma-ray source HESS J1813−178. We resolve the X-ray emission from the co-located ASCA source into a point source surrounded by structured diffuse emission that fills the interior of the radio shell. The morphology of the diffuse emission strongly resembles that of a pulsar wind ...

Chandra Observations of Pulsar B 1509 – 58 and Supernova Remnant G 320

The young and energetic pulsar B1509–58 powers a bright X-ray synchrotron nebula, embedded in the unusual supernova remnant G320.4– 1.2. We present observations of this system with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, which show a spectacularly complicated source. The nebula is dominated by a bright collimated feature which we interpret as a relativistic jet directed along the pulsar spin axis. Sever...

Nondetection of a Pulsar-powered Nebula in Puppis a and the Implications for the Nature of the Radio-quiet Neutron Star Rx J082224300

We report on a deep radio search for a pulsar wind nebula associated with the radio-quiet neutron star RX J082224300 in the supernova remnant Puppis A. The well-determined properties of Puppis A allow us to constrain the size of any nebula to less than 300; however, we find no evidence for such a source on any spatial scale up to 309. These nondetections result in an upper limit on the radio lu...
